Montreal-Marrakech

2024

WORLD PREMIERE JUNE 23, 24, 25 AT FESTIVAL MONTPELLIER DANSE 2023

Driven by a desire to provoke a true encounter, one beyond their respective practices, choreographers Danièle Desnoyers and Taoufiq Izeddiou venture into unknown territory, exploring the fertile yet fragile ground of co-creation.

This collaboration crystallizes their mutual desire to create an atypical creative process, open to otherness, dialogue and exchange. Conceived with great freedom, Montréal-Marrakech reconciles two worlds, two visions. The two choreographers set out to redefine the process itself, instinctively advancing to the heart of the matter with four dancers in their wake (Myriam Arsenault Campbell and Abe Simon Mijnheer from Montreal; Chourouk El Mahati and Moad Haddadi from Marrakech), in close interaction with Montreal composer Ben Shemie and lighting designer Hugo Dalphond. The conceptions of each are confronted in the very act of movement. By probing the half-light and the in-between, they co-construct a work about the possible and the impossible, one that questions the view of the other, the relationship to the performer, to the space and light, to the very act of creation. An original, stimulating, sensitive and highly engaging experience, developed in Montreal, Montpellier and Marrakech in four creative stages between 2019 to 2023.
