Sound cell with Nancy Tobin – Compagnonnage 24

2024

As part of COMPAGNONNAGE 24, Danièle Desnoyers offers a workshop on sound with sound designer Nancy Tobin and dance artist Anne Thériault.

Danièle Desnoyers and sound designer Nancy Tobin began an artistic collaboration in 1999 that would span several creations. Concerto grosso pour corps et surface métallique, for which the choreographer received the Prix d’auteur des rencontres chorégraphiques internationales Seine-Saint-Denis in 2000, and Duos pour corps et instruments, are undoubtedly the two most striking works of their collaboration. Developed during a residency at the Musée d’art contemporain in 2003, Duos pour corps et instruments fascinates with its use of the Larsen effect to link movement to live sound production. International invitations multiplied, and the work was also recreated in 2014 with a new generation of performers.

As part of this workshop on sound, Danièle Desnoyers and Nancy Tobin will share more specifically the issues linked to the use of the Larsen effect as developed in Duos pour corps et instruments. Dance artist Anne Thériault will share her physical and visceral experience of the piece, having participated in its re-creation in 2014, and is currently pursuing a process in which sound occupies a central place.

This second part of COMPAGNONNAGE 24 is produced in collaboration with Agora de la danse and with the financial support of the Caisse Desjardins de la Culture.
