THE CONTINUATION OF AN EXCEPTIONAL JOURNEY

A new chapter begins: Living in Rome.

After being awarded the Studio du Québec in Rome by the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, Danièle Desnoyers allows herself some time for introspection, research, and writing. Rome, a global city where multiple layers of history, art, and life overlap, will become her new laboratory for a period of six months.

This stay will act as a creative airlock, a suspended space where the past can be revisited with gentleness and lucidity, allowing her to take stock of the path she has traveled. It is also a propitious time to dream about the future: to imagine new forms, open the door to new collaborations, and above all, let the premises of future creations emerge. At the same time, she will accompany UNFOLD | 7 perspectives during its tour in France and then continue to design new iterations of Les Scénographies-Paysages, her prolific in situ project, which will resume once she returns to Montreal.

A chapter comes to an end: the end of a term at UQAM

December 2025 marks the end of an important cycle for Danièle Desnoyers, who is concluding her tenure as a professor in the Dance Department at UQAM. A member of the institution since 2012, she has had a profound impact on an entire generation of dance students thanks to her keen sense of movement, her unique choreographic vision, and her commitment to research-creation. From 2019 to 2022, she also served as department chair, guiding the student and faculty community with rigor and openness to new practices.

Throughout these years, she has successfully balanced her role as an artist-teacher with that of artistic director and choreographer of Le Carré des Lombes, fostering a fruitful dialogue between creation and pedagogy. Her constant back-and-forth between the stage, the studio, and the university has undoubtedly nourished her teaching approach, which is firmly rooted in reality.

This departure, far from being an end, is above all a moment of transition: the conclusion of a dense, generous, and transformative chapter. Transmission will always remain present in her career, but in different contexts, such as her Compagnonnage project, which she hopes to see grow.

I would like to thank the entire team at Le Carré des Lombes and the Dance Department, who have given me invaluable support during this incredibly demanding period. Without all these fabulous people, it would have been impossible for me to develop the artistic projects I have completed while teaching at a professional training institution. I would also like to highlight the complicity of the performers with whom I have worked over the past few years. These kind-hearted individuals have always brought me immense joy and constantly renewed my desire to create. My final words go out to all the students I have met in the department. Your curiosity, your impetuosity, and your questions have been a great source of inspiration and commitment to dance for me.
I miss you already!

A new artistic dialogue is taking shape in Mexico

Quasar – saxophone quartet renews its collaboration with the Escuela Superior de Música y Danza de Monterrey (ESMDM). This new transcultural initiative will bring together the worlds of contemporary music and dance from Quebec and Mexico through a production that will be presented in Monterrey and Montreal in the winter of 2026.The project will bring together five composers and choreographers from both communities, who will work in tandem to create five original pieces performed by ten dancers from the ESMDM and the musicians of Quasar.

Danièle Desnoyers is one of the invited choreographers, along with Montrealer Lila Geneix. The first stage of the creative process will take place in Mexico this December.

This project also marks the continuation of a fruitful collaboration between Quasar and Le Carré des Lombes which began during an edition of Les Scénographies-Paysages, presented at Domaine Forget in June 2025.
